Buddy Poppies

The poppy is the official memorial flower of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. YOUR DONATIONS to the VFW Buddy Poppy program provides compensation to the veterans who assemble the poppies, provides financial assistance in maintain state and national veterans’ rehabilitation and service programs.

U.S. ARMY

The U.S. Army traces its roots to the Continental Army formed on 14 June 1775. The Congress of the Confederation created the United States Army on 3 June 1784 to displace the disbanded Continental Army. The U.S, Army is made up of the most dedicated, most respected soldiers in the world. These soldiers protect America's Freedoms while serving at home and abroad, and they are always prepared to defend the nation in times of need.

U.S. NAVY

The U.S. Navy traces its roots to the Continental Navy established during the American Revolution. The Naval Act, passed on 27 March 1794, established a permanent standing Navy. America's Navy is a force as relevant today as it's been historically significant for the last 238 years. The times may change, the threats may become more obscure, the complex nature of 21st century life may make the demand for such presence less obvious, however, now more than ever, the Navy is something to be aware of, something to be thankful for and something to be proud of.

U.S. MARINES

The U.S. Marines traces its roots to the Continental Marines of the American Revolutionary War. The Second Continental Congress established the Marines on 10 November 1775. We are soldiers of the sea, providing forces and detachments to naval ships and shore operations. We are global leaders, developing expeditionary doctrine and innovations that set the example, and leading other countries' forces and agencies in the multinational military operations. These unique capabilities make us "First to Fight", and our nations first line of defense.

U.S. AIR FORCE

The U.S. Air Force was initially formed as part of the United States Army on 1 August 1907. It was established as a separate branch of the U.S. Armed Forces on 18 September 1947. The Air Force has a vision of Global Vigilance, Reach and Power. That vision orbits around three core competencies: developing airmen, technology to war fighting and integrating operations. These core competencies make our six distinctive capabilities possible.

U.S. COAST GUARD

The U.S. Coast Guard was created in 1915. It is the result of a merger between the United States Life-Saving Service, formed in 1748, and the United States Revenue Cutter Service. The Coast Guard later absorbed the United States Lighthouse Service and the Bureau of Navigation and Steamboat Inspection. The Coast Guard protects the personal safety and security of our people; the marine transportation system and infrastructure; our natural and economic resources; and the territorial integrity of our nation-from both internal and external threats, natural and man-made.

U.S. NATIONAL GUARD

The U.S. National Guard is part of the reserve components of the U.S. Armed Forces. The National Guard has its origins in the early militias that predate our standing military units. The early United States distrusted standing armies and kept the numbers of professional soldiers small. Primarily under State control the National Guard is composed of civilian and regular armed forces personnel. The Guard's versatility enables it respond to domestic emergencies, overseas combat missions, counter-drug efforts, reconstruction missions and more.

Your courage and sacrifice have made a significant impact in preserving and defending world peace. We honor your service regardless of rank or occupation. Our post is, above all, a safe, friendly haven for combat veterans, their families, and friends. We are a very supportive community - we look out for each other.

If you are seeking a way to continue your selfless service, especially to veterans, or if you are looking for a safe place to relax, we invite you to stop by and visit. You will see the valuable work we do and how much we care about it.

Our Post has been built and maintained by our VFW and Auxiliary members on a volunteer basis since 1928. Our Esprit de Corps is high because our members make it so. We continue to be a more caring and giving post because veterans like you see the value in what we do every day and join us to help out!

HELP US PROVIDE SUPPORT TO NEEDY VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES
 
We are pleased to announce that our Bingo games are now being held again at our hall 554 Rio Lindo Ave., Chico, CA.  Games are played every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month.  Various prizes are awarded to winners with one game "the Benjamin Game" giving $100.00 to the winner, in addition to prize winnings.  All persons are invited to play.

June was "National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Month", and is intended to raise public awareness related to PTSD, reduce the stigma associated with PTSD , and help ensure that those suffering rom the invisible wounds of war receive proper treatment.  Sunday June 27, 2021 is also PTSD Awareness Day - Spread the Word.
Post Re-opening:  Post 1555 is now open for regular meetings at our hall.  Meetings are held the 1st Tuesday of each month.

Abraham Lincoln is purported to have said; "Nearly all men can stand adversity but if you want to test a man's character give him power."
 
To rephrase that quotation, and relate it to the members of VFW Post 1555; "Nearly all who are serving or who have served our country have experienced adversity but all maintained their character."
